Vanitas

Own Image

Following our workshop on Vanitas paintings, as a group we produced our own Vanitas image, modelling it on an image of an original vanitas painting.
We created the image in the studio. Each member of the group took a role in creating the shot. My main  role was creating the set up, making it look most similar to the image we were trying to re-create.

to create the image a side light to the left hand side was used, as most vanitas paintings follow the similar characteristic of being lit from the left hand side. A black background and black cloth on a table was used to create the dark background.
Slight changes we made to the re-created image was the use of an orange peel and the use of a mirror instead of the circular reflective object in the original image.
The greatest task when creating the image was trying to capture the symbolic aspect of the reflection of the artist in the mirror.
